VISITING THE CAPITOL


The Tennessee State Capitol is located on Charlotte Avenue between 6th and 7th Avenues in Nashville.  I-24, I-40 and I-65 have signs indicating the exits to be used for the State Capitol.

Hours:

The Capitol is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Capitol is closed weekends and holidays. During Legislative sessions, the hours the Capitol is open to the public are extended if either of the two houses of the Legislature is still in session.

Accessing the Capitol:

Visitors are asked to enter the Capitol using the West entrance. Visitors are required to pass through metal detectors and show photo identification when entering the Capitol.

Parking:

Individuals visiting the Capitol are asked to use the metered spaces around the Capitol complex or any of the public parking lots in the downtown area. (list some locations of lots)

Bus parking permits are available upon request from Metro Nashville government, call 862-8797 or contact Rep. Lynn’s office for assistance.

 


HOW TO TOUR THE CAPITOL

 

Tours:

Guided tours of the Capitol are provided free of charge by staff of the Tennessee State Museum.

These tours leave from the Information Desk on the First Floor of the Capitol every hour, on the hour.

The first tour begins at 9 a.m. and the final tour begins at 3 p.m.

Visitors can also learn about the Capitol on a self-guided tour using the informational pamphlet available at the Information Desk.

 

Large Groups:

If you are coming to the Capitol with a large group and are interested in a guided tour, you are requested to schedule your visit in advance with the Tennessee State Museum by calling (615) 741-0830

Call Representative Lynn’s office.  She will be pleased to assist your group with your tour and an official photo.
